Amaechi: Allegations of Nepotism Against Tinubu Are Unfair and Misleading

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has raised a powerful alarm: systemic injustice is one of Nigeria’s most dangerous problems. Addressing a gathering of stakeholders, Amaechi emphasized that justice must be administered fairly across every corner of the country if Nigerians truly want national unity and sustained progress.

He began by expressing gratitude for the warm reception and the recognition of his relationship with the North. But he was quick to remind his audience that his service as a minister was not regional — it was national. He pointed to his track record: the construction of the Kano–Kaduna rail line and the completion of the Abuja–Kaduna railway, built not just for one region but for all Nigerians.

Amaechi argued that true unity cannot be preached in one part of the country while ignored in another. He warned that development must not be concentrated in just a few regions. In his view, when opportunities, projects, and justice are unevenly distributed, it breeds division and robs citizens of their rights.

“The problem with Nigeria,” he said, “is injustice. The justice that is being served in Abuja must be served in Igbo land, in the North, the South East, the South West — everywhere.” According to him, fairness before the law must not be a privilege for only some Nigerians, but a guarantee for all.

He also defended the President against accusations of nepotism and favouritism. According to Amaechi, it is unfair to label the President as biased or regionally partial. He insisted that such criticisms ignore the broader picture of national service and inclusive leadership.

Amaechi’s message was clear: for Nigeria to move forward, its leaders and institutions must deliver justice equitably, and Nigerians must hold them accountable. Without that, unity will remain a hollow promise, and national progress will continue to be elusive.
