President Bola Tinubu has expressed his gratitude to Nigeria’s security forces following the successful rescue of abducted citizens in Niger and Kwara States. The President confirmed that 50 Catholic School students in Niger State and 38 worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State have regained their freedom after days in captivity.
In a statement released on Sunday, President Tinubu highlighted that he cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to personally oversee and coordinate the security operations. He commended the efforts of the security agencies, noting that their prompt action ensured the safe return of the victims.
“You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me to coordinate the security efforts at home,” the statement read. “Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued. I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered.”
President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that he is closely monitoring the security situation nationwide, receiving regular updates from the frontline, and remains committed to protecting every citizen. “Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” he emphasized.
The successful rescue marks another milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against abduction and insecurity, and underscores the crucial role of coordinated security operations in safeguarding lives.
