Rivers Lawyer Calls for Arrest of Soldiers Over Alleged Clash With FCT Minister Nyesom Wike

A Port Harcourt–based legal practitioner, Mr. Princewill Dike, has urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute the soldiers allegedly involved in a confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike) during an incident in Abuja on Tuesday.

The lawyer made the call while reacting to viral reports of a face-off between the FCT Minister and some soldiers said to be guarding a construction site allegedly lacking proper title documents and building approvals.

Mr. Dike, in his statement, strongly condemned what he described as “an act of impunity,” insisting that no individual, no matter their status, should defy constituted authority.

> “The soldiers’ alleged threat to open fire on the Minister and officials of the FCTA Development Control Department is not only unlawful but an affront to the authority of the Federal Government,” he said.

He further stressed that such actions, if confirmed, amount to an attack not just on the person of the Minister but on the office of the President who empowered him to act on matters concerning the FCT.

> “Unbeknownst to them, it is not the Minister they targeted, but the President himself,” Mr. Dike added.

He urged relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the law.

As of the time of this report, neither the Nigerian Army nor the FCT Administration has issued an official statement regarding the alleged confrontation.
