“Years of Neglected and forgotten: Oka-Ama–Isiodum Link Road Crumbles, Residents Cry Out for Government Intervention”

For years, the people of Isiodumu and Oka-Ama communities have endured the pain of a forgotten promise — a vital link road that once held hope for easier access and development has now become a symbol of neglect, frustration, and hardship.
The Oka-Ama–Isiodumu link road, which provides access to the waterway used by residents of Egbomung and the Isiokwan axis to cross via local canoes and boats — their primary and easiest mode of transportation — is now almost impassable. Deep potholes, stagnant water, and severely eroded sections have turned the route into a daily struggle for both residents and travelers.
Speaking with Bigchiefvibes Media, a resident of Isiodum who preferred to remain anonymous, narrated how the worsening state of the road has crippled movement and livelihood.
> “This road affects us in Isiodum the most, and even the people of Egbomung. You must pass this road to access or return from Unyeada main town and other Isiokwan communities. Our children can’t even go to school when it rains because bike men refuse to carry us. When they agree, they charge double,” he said.
He described how the economic life of the area has been hit hard by the deplorable condition of the road.
> “Some of us go to Bori to buy goods, but bringing them home is another struggle. We end up paying extra people to carry them down to Isiodumu, and the distance is far. We are just suffering,” he added.
The resident made a passionate appeal to the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the Andoni Local Government Chairman, Hon. Prince Lucky Promise Otuo, to come to the aid of the people and restore what has become a lifeline for multiple communities.
> “Christmas and New Year are coming. We don’t know how our people will move with their loads. Even when you dress neatly, by the time you pass this road, you’ll be dirty again. We are begging the government to help us,” he pleaded.
The Oka-Ama–Isiodumu link road stands today as more than just a route — it is a reflection of rural neglect and a reminder of why equitable development remains crucial for local communities.
